The Vine in Flames collection is exclusively for export. The wines in this range are dry, partially matured in barrels to obtain complexity and structure and are aged in bottles for at least 4 months before being put on the market.
Legend has it that the popularity of Dacia wines grew so much that Burebista, the leader of the Dacians, feared attacks on his territories. To prevent this, he burned the vineyards so that no invaders could take advantage of them.
Centuries later, we have revived the winemaking tradition and given new life to unique vine varieties and wines in the same place where the Dacian leader decided, 2000 years ago, to burn the vineyard so as not to attract invaders.
Pinot Noir originates from Burgundy, France, like many other well-known varieties, and prefers regions with a cooler climate. It is a delicate and difficult variety to grow. The conditions in Dealu Mare are favorable for it, allowing us to obtain a good quality Pinot Noir at Crama Budureasca, among the few wines of this type in Romania.
The profile of Pinot Noir wines leads us to aromas of red and black fruits, a suitable alcohol content, medium body, mineral notes, high acidity and a low astringency. Due to the characteristics of the variety, Pinot Noir wines are more delicate than most red wines.
At Crama Budureasca, we have the opportunity to produce a high quality Pinot Noir thanks to the micro-climate in the region and the chernozem and clay type soils present in the vineyard. These conditions allowed the Pinot Noir grapes to adapt excellently to the terroir of our vineyards, being among the earliest harvested varieties.
2018 was a good year for the Pinot grapes, from which we managed to extract enough color and aromatic intensity following the fermentation of the must at controlled temperatures. To achieve more complexity, the winery’s oenologist decided to mature part of the wine in French and American oak barrels, thus completing the bouquet of aromas.
Tasting Notes
The wine pours into the glass in a dark red color with a ruby rim. The body is medium and the aromas are shaped around notes of fresh cherries and black currants. The taste is reminiscent of black cherries, and the finish is velvety and balanced.
Food Pairing
Pinot Noir is the ideal companion for leaner meat dishes, such as lamb chops, duck breast, grilled chicken or pasta amatriciana. Also excellent with semi-soft cheeses such as Emmentaler or Gouda.
Serving Temperature
It is recommended to serve at a temperature of 16 – 18°C. Before consumption, store in a dark and cool place, away from sunlight.
