COLLECTION The Origini collection brings together exclusive wines, created in limited quantities only in the best harvest years, using hand-picked grapes from the best parcels of the Budureasca vineyards. The symbol of this range is the snake with a wolf’s head, the battle flag of the Dacians, which appears coiled around the noble grape. The red wines from the Origini collection are fully aged for at least one year in oak barrels.
VARIETY The Shiraz (or Syrah) variety is said to have first appeared in the Rhone Valley in France. Wines made from Shiraz are appreciated around the world for their strong fruity profile, robust structure and rich tannin fabric. The Shiraz berries are voluminous, well gathered in compact and large bunches, with a thick skin that gives rise to extractive red-purple to deep ruby wines.
TERROIR For this collection wine, obtained in the remarkable harvest of 2018, the Shiraz grapes were carefully inspected, then hand-picked from the terraced plots of the Budureasca vineyards only after they had reached full maturity. In this area, located in the north of our vineyards, the soils are very rich in limestone and gravel. Additionally, cooler air currents at night allow the grapes to ripen more slowly, preventing excess sugar from accumulating.
WINEMAKING DETAILS After hand-picking from the best plots of vines, the Shiraz grapes are delicately pressed, and the must is subjected to cold maceration for several days, at controlled temperatures of around 10°C. Thus, all the aromas and color desired by the oenologist are extracted from the skin. At the end of the winemaking process, to make the wine even more special, I aged it entirely in American oak barrels for a period of 18 months.
